Avoch Highland Cattle Fold is located on "Windara", a 270 acre farm in the in the snow country of the Monaro region in South Eastern Australia. Being in the Snowy Mountains at 1,200m, snow and rain fall on our hills, enabling the growth of our mix of improved and native pastures. This allows us to grow high quality feed from our phalaris and subterranean clover and native pastures, with shelter provided by our spectacular snow gums. We do not need to hard feed our cattle and so all our stock are purely grass reared. Our cattle graze and forage year round in the high country snow and sunshine as they were bred to do in the Highlands of Scotland hundreds of years ago.

'Windara' is also home to many of Australia’s iconic wildlife including Eastern Grey kangaroos, wombats and native birds. These range over the whole property, sharing feed with our livestock and well as roaming over the substantial part of ‘Windara’ that is native alpine forest.
